How Do I Start Working on a Merit Badge?
- You don't have to wait for a workshop.
- Pick the Merit Badge that interests you.
- Look up the requirements - get the current Boy Scout Requirements Book from the Scout Shop or go to www.meritbadge.com
- Print out the Merit Badge Requirements Workbook from meritbadge.com/worksheets/
- Ask an ASM for a signed Merit Badge Card.
- Ask Mrs. Pietruszka for the name and phone number of a few counselors.
- Call the counselor before starting work to see if the counselor wants to meet first.
- Alway use the buddy system when meeting with the counselor. Your buddy can be a parent, fellow scout, friend, etc.
- Thoroughly complete each requirement.
- If you need adult help or advice, ask a parent, ASM, or other knowledgable person.
If your Patrol or a group of scouts wants to work on a badge . . .
- Pick one that interests all of you.
- Follow steps 1-6 above.
- Pick one person to contact the counselor . Ask the counselor when he or she would like meet with your group in order to complete the badge.
- Create a plan for getting the requirements done. Some requirements can be done at troop meetings, but some may have to be done at home (as a group or individually).
- Ask an ASM for help or supervison as needed.
- If you are working during a meeting . . . BE PREPARED to work.
